Anthropometry in design is crucila to any designs success.
the scientific study of the measurements and proportions of the human body.
Now you know...
That explanation in the Dictionary tells you absolutely nothing of how to apply it in design, while that is exactly what Anthropometry is, it could be instructions on how to fly to the moon (to be fair you would use Anthropometry in designing the shuttle).
Anyway I digress.
Using Anthropometry in Design is key when designing a product which anyone interacts with, you can't create a useful useable product without examining how the end user will interact with it.
From automobile design engineering to fashion design, how the product fits or interacts with the consumer will determine whether it's practical, safe and does the job it was intended to do.
Without applying anthropometry your product will almost certainly not be fit for purpose.
In Fashion, a series of measurements of the body are taken and then used to establish how the garment will fit. Sleeve length, hem length, body length, leg girth, hip width, back width, neck girth along with others, this is tried and tested in the sample making to ensure the end wearer will be comfortable in the garment, this is coupled with a knowledge of fabrics and how they behave in relation to movement and certain circumstances relating to the type of clothing.
Learning how to apply Anthropometry to your design is a vital part of the design process and to the outcome of the finished product.
